Grano, Wetherill Park

Hello, long time no blog! It has definitely been some time since my last post, time is flying by! But trying to get back into it.  I recently visited Grano in Wetherill Park which is a suburb South West of Sydney for those who have never heard of Wetherill Park.


I've been to Grano once before last year for dessert and instantly fell in love with the restaurant. Located in an odd industrial location it  has a Surry Hills/The Grounds of Alexandria vibe going on. It has been renovated since I've last visited with a lot more seating capacity and a lot more rustic decor giving it a back yard dining kind of appeal.  


. I opted for the "Granchio e Aglio" ($24.90) which was a  creamy tomato based spaghetti dish w/ spanner crab, garlic, chilli. The pasta  which was served in a frypan was cooked nicely and flavours worked well however I felt that it still lacked an extra 'oomph' to make it memorable. An extra grind of pepper, sprinkle of parmesan and hit of chilli oil improved the dish.



"Prosciutto e Ricotta" ($21.90) w/ fettuccine, spinach, prosciutto cudo, mushroom and fresh ricotta.  I didn't get a chance to grab a bite of this one but look at the generous serve of fresh ricotta!  



I also had the self titled "Grano" ($21) wood fired pizza which featured mozzarella, pesto, garlic prawns and parmigiano. Similar to my pasta dish, the flavours were there (although some said the pesto was overpowering) but I felt it could've done with an extra element and some extra prawns as well.    


For dessert, I decided on the "Ravioli di ciliegia cioccolato" ($13.90) which was described as deep fried ravioli filled w/ cherry ripe, hazelnut chocolate, roasted nuts served w/ gianduia bianca gelato. I was slightly disappointed with my choice as it looked and sounded much better than what it turned out to be. It was basically a deep fried pastry filled with Nutella (could not taste any cherry ripe) dipped in a whole lot of cinnamon sugar and served with a bit of vanilla ice cream.




I was secretly eyeing my other dining companions desserts especially the "Biscotti Fritti"  ($13.90) or deep fried Oreos!  Their orgasmic looks on their faces definitely makes me want to come back for just that. Also pictured (left) "Mousse Di Amaretti" ($12.90),  white chocolate mousse w/amaretti brittle.

Although I wasn't entirely blown away by their food, I would still rate it above average especially their effort with the quality and excellent presentation of their dishes. Grano is the perfect place to gather and relax with a group of friends and enjoy good quality Italian food and unique desserts; it is definitely a great addition to the South West.

I would also like to make special mention to the very friendly staff and host who were all very friendly and attentive even though the restaurant was pretty much full on that busy Saturday night.
