The Burger Project, World Square Sydney

Just a quickie about Neil Perry's new burger joint which has been all the hype last month. The Burger Project is located next to Din Tai Fung upstairs from World Square's main eateries. It was quite busy during the lunch time rush but the food came out pretty fast.

We ordered the American Cheeseburger ($8.90) and the Spicy Chicken Burger ($8.90).  The differentiating aspect of his burgers are the extremely (and oily) soft burger bun.

The beef patty is made from  ground 36-month grass-fed Cape Grim beef and is topped with cheese, onion, pickles, secret sauce and rose mayonnaise. The burger was a little disappointing especially since I hear so many good things about the famous Rockpool Bar and Grill burger. Although it tasted good, for me it was like a fancier gourmet version of a McDonald's cheeseburger.

I also enjoyed the Spicy Chicken Burger; served with salted chilli, pickles, pickled slaw, lettuce, coriander, soy and mayonnaise. The burger definitely looked quite vibrant and tasted very fresh. However, again it failed to amaze me. There was too much carrot in the burger for my liking and quite resembled flavours of a Vietnamese Pork Roll.
.

You always should have a burger with fries so we grabbed the Thrice Cooked House Made Chips ($4.90). Thrice Cooked should've been a giveaway that these chips will be extremely oily. Although they were very crunchy; the chips were cut too small and retained 100% of the oil and could not taste any potato. I couldn't help feel that my arteries were clogging up with every bite.

I admire the concept of Neil Perry's Burger Project but from my little taste of it, I am undecided about how it has been executed. The other items on their extensive menu do sound mouthwatering and would be willing to return to give it another chance but let's just say I have had better burgers...
